The Importance of Nutrition and Active Living
Both nutrition and active living play important roles in our body because it promotes optimal health. Good nutrition involves consumption of a well-rounded diet consisting of fruit and vegetables, grains, meats and alternatives along with dairy products. Eating a variety of foods that consist of a variety of vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, proteins, fibres, water, carbohydrates and fats contribute to our physical health and help to strengthen our body and immune system while preventing disease and providing energy for our bodies to function properly.
Our physical health is also very important and provides our body with many benefits. Being physically active and exercising daily helps our body prevent health risk factors; such as, heart disease, improve muscle and bone strength, and maintaining your weight at a healthy level.

Personal Nutrition
Breakfast
On a typical day, the breakfast I eat would consist of granola and almond cereal with fortified soy milk and I also have a coffee with creamer. On the side I take a multivitamin, niacin and vitamin D supplements.
Lunch
For lunch, I had a spicy chicken with plum sauce with a toasted bun, I also have spinach salad with low fat Italian dressing.
Dinner
For dinner, I had chili which consist of a variety of beans like kidney beans, mixed medley and black beans as well as tomatoes, corn with toast on the side.
Snacks
Throughout the day, he snacks I usually prepare to eat are some fruits and vegetables, such as strawberries, pineapples, apples, blackberries, and brocoli. Other snacks that I would have to eat on a typical day are pretzel thins, and pumpkin seeds, which are rich in protein. Lastly, towards the end of the day, I would have dessert which will usually consist of greek yogurt mixed with a variety of mixed fruits such as blackberries, blueberries, and raspberries along with granola.
Beverages
Throughout the day and along with her meals, I would usually drink gatorade, apple cider, chocolate soymilk, and hot chocolate.

Eating Well with Canada's Food Guide
According to Eating Well with Canada's Food Guide, the recommended servings for my current age group (19-50), I should consume at lease 7-8 servings of fruits and vegetables, 6-7 servings of grain products, 2 servings of mill and alternatives and 2 servings of meat and alternatives. Comparing my typical meals of the day, I am following the recommendations of Eating Well with Canada's Food Guide. I feel like I am getting more than enough milk, because I am drinking more of the recommended daily intake. Also, I feel I am lacking in the consumption of vegetables because I am not eating enough vegetable when comparing to Eating Well with Canada's Food Guide.
